The Spike chair has a unique shape. The seat and backrest consist of a number of slats, like a spike mat, which together mimic the curves of the body. The chair's base is made of steel tubing joined together with a three-millimeter-thick steel plate. The upper section consists of turned ash components. Alexander Lervik drew inspiration for the Spike chair during a trip to the Philippines. "One day, it was pouring rain. It was raining cats and dogs, as they say, and that's exactly what it was like. The raindrops resembled slanted lines, and in that rain, I suddenly saw the contours of Spike right in front of me," says Alexander. To make the chair ergonomic, it was necessary to manufacture the rods in a variety of shapes. The 60 rods vary in length, with a total of 30 different sizes. "I wanted to create a sculptural chair with a strong graphic identity. It was a challenge to make Spike comfortable despite its distinctive appearance," says Alexander. Spike has been featured in magazines and blogs around the world and is one of Alexander's most widely published products. Alexander Lervik 2013.
